Passing Down Wisdom: Advice from a 90-Year-Old Cowgirl

Jan 10, 2024

Visiting an elderly (90), self-proclaimed (and rightly so) “old school cowgirl” the other day.

We were chatting about her growing up (no running water in the house, all the siblings and chores, etc.) and raising strong- willed, independent girls.

These are traits we cherish as cowgirls, and they are necessary to survive and succeed in this world.

She slowed her conversation and looked right at me with more grace tone, and said,

Here’s are a few words of advice from this old lady, and they keep ringing in my ears,

“Don’t sweat the small stuff. Just pick your battles. And respect is very important.”
So much truth here.

I cherish these words of wisdom from a person who has lived through so much life, tragedy and triumph. Yet still focuses on her faith, helping others and sharing a positive and encouraging word.

Priceless lessons and perspective.

Sharing with you today in hopes you will both take it to heart, and pass it along to the next generation.

Let’s keep this cowgirl spirit alive!
